GENERAL SUMMARY 

The ESS Director is responsible for the planning, coordinating and administering safe, quality, and hospitality focused housekeeping and laundry operations for FVD.  

Essential Job Duties

  1. Establish standards and procedures for housekeeping and laundry services to ensure safe operations,  high quality service a hospitality focus, while complying with all federal, state, and local codes, laws and regulations.
  1. Ensure high quality services through personal quality assurance inspections, resident surveys, associate coaching sessions and training programs.
  1. Select, train, coach and evaluate ESS staff members; ensure all ESS staff members know and follow facility and departmental policies and procedures.
  1. Oversee associate scheduling and work assignments, including 6-month apartment cleanings.  Make adjustments to assignments when absenteeism occurs.  Occasionally must personally help with housekeeping, laundry and function set-ups.
  1. Remain current on issues related to associate safety and health, keeping abreast of changes on OSHA requirements and informing the staff where appropriate; ensure staff attends mandatory in-services and emergency drills.  Ensure all equipment and materials are maintained, repaired and are in proper working condition.  Implement and ensure appropriate infection control policies and procedures.
  1. In conjunction with supervisors, maintain inventory controls and conduct monthly inventories.  Order all necessary supplies, chemicals and equipment for ESS operations.  Test and evaluate new products.
  1. Understand special needs of 65 and over age groups (e.g., possible loss of vision, memory, skin sensitivity, etc.); able to effectively communicate with and provide care for these age groups.

JOB REQUIREMENTS  

  1. Bachelor Degree in related field preferred. 
  2. High school diploma or GED required. 
  3. Courses in housekeeping or institutional management required. 
  4. 2-5 years experience in a hospitality focused leadership role within a luxury hotel or a retirement community, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  5. Ability to use basic mathematic skills.
  6. General computer knowledge, ability to learn new software, and proficiency with Microsoft products are required. 
  7. Knowledge of nursing home regulations and infection control principles with respect to housekeeping.
  8. Excellent hospitality skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS 

Required to move quickly throughout the facility, bend, stoop, reach, push, lift and carry 75% of the time.   Must be able to properly lift up to 50 pounds.  Some time is spent in front of the computer screen, copying documents, distributing documents and general movement in an office environment.  Occasionally travels to off-site locations.  Ability to respond and take control in emergency situations.  Surroundings are comfortable and well lighted.  This position is classified as minimally at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals and cleaners.  May encounter demanding and even verbally or physically abusive residents and visitors.
