LeadingAge Testifies at Senate Finance Subcommittee

This week, LeadingAge Ohio testified before the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Health and Medicaid, sharing thoughts on the proposals that emerged from the House budget process, as well as hopes for additional reforms in the Senate.

Kathryn Brod, President/CEO joined a panel of members to speak to the importance of addressing longstanding underfunding of the Ohio Assisted Living Waiver, as well as preserving funding that the House had put in place for PASSPORT programs. Rick Marshall of Genacross Lutheran Services shared his organization’s experiences (including financial losses) in serving older Ohioans through the Assisted Living Waiver, while Maria Bowe, Nurse Educator at St. Augustine Health Ministries, spoke to the real-life experiences of STNAs living close to the poverty line. Terry Spitznagel of National Church Residences implored the committee to maintain the boost to funding that the House enacted for personal care services and enhanced community living (ECL) under the PASSPORT waiver program.
