SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the stable operation of the organization’s computer systems and network, including planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all systems, the network, software, and communication links. The Senior Systems Administrator provides and contributes to daily support services and objectives, including business planning, project management, status reporting, compliance, customer service, and maintaining security standards performing investigations and remediation, in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Essential Activities and Tasks

Operations Management

  • Monitors daily systems and services to meet security, dependability, and reliability requirements, including after hours on-call coverage for 24/7 IS operation.
  • Participates in the implementation of the local/wide area networks.
  • Monitors and maintains all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Troubleshoots network access problems.
  • Performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Sets up, configures, and adds servers.
  • Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access level.
  • Performs system backups and recovery.
  • Serves as an escalation point for all issues that require advanced troubleshooting from the Service Desk.                                                                                                                                                            

Project Management

  • Works with corporate and location leaders and staff, IS staff, and vendors to research, evaluate, and implement new products, standards, and processes.
  • Manages, supports, or participates in project work plan development and activities related to IS system security or infrastructure design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Participates in the IS Master Project Development Plan by identifying new projects and enhancements for all administrative, HR, Foundation, and financial operations.                                                                                                                                                             

Customer Relations and Service Delivery

  • Works with corporate and location leaders and staff, IS staff, and vendors to scope system security, service requirements, and implementations.
  • Maintains productive relationships with technical vendors.
  • Executes, supports, and helps manage customer service level agreements.
  • Helps develop, coordinate, or facilitate technology communication and change management plans and processes to communicate updates, maintenance schedules, risks, or other key updates to staff and vendors.
  • Leads and conducts regular status change control meetings with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Provides user training for hardware and software packages.
  • Engages corporate and location leaders and staff, IS staff, and vendors in a participative and collaborative manner to enhance overall positive relations and ability to influence each other through innovative idea sharing.
  • Coordinates between IS departments during times of implementations and other projects.
  • Listens and responds courteously and promptly to the needs of corporate and location leaders and staff and end users.                                                                                                                                                            

Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management

  • Ensures compliance by completing backup and security procedures.
  • Works with IS staff to prevent or reduce network system down time or other issues.
  • Performs server and security audits.
  • Completes quality assurance following implementations.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant systems and technical support best practices.

Qualifications 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and/or Security+ certification desired.

Experience

  • Five years experience as a Windows systems administrator required.
  • Working technical knowledge of Windows 10 and server operating systems required, including Server 2008/201202016 and SQL Server 2014.
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy Management including Microsoft 365/Windows Azure required.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 email configuration, administration and security principles required.
  • Experience with HP and Cisco networking equipment desired.
  • Strong knowledge of standard network protocols including DHCP/PXE, DNS, and ARP required.
  • Experience with subnetting and vlanning, OSI layers and ability to use them in troubleshooting switching, routing, and application related issues required.
  • Design and administration of SCCM for network imaging, packaging, and software deployment required.
  • Experience with patch management using WSUS/SCCM and other third party application patch management required.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for server automation, Active Directory, Azure, and Office 365 management required.
  • Design and management of large-scale enterprise wireless systems required.
  • Familiarity of Meraki products for wireless, switching and firewalls desired.
  • Experience supporting wide area networks required.
  • Management, support, and maintenance of antivirus related products required.
  • Solid understanding of virtual technologies, including ESXi required.
  • Familiarity in configuration and use of Solar Winds NPM desired.
  • Competency with log management, SYSLOG, and audit and reporting tools desired.
  • Working knowledge of Mobile Device Management technologies.
  • Understanding and exposure to device encryption services desired.
  • Familiarity of working with a hosted data center provider desired.
  • Understanding of email protection services and e-faxing desired.
  • Experience working in a HIPAA environment desired.
  • Experience in direct end user support for diverse customer groups preferred.
